Lil Brookes

I have a small business called Gatekeeper Art which I began in 2016. My freelance work has two strands, I am an artist and also a social historian with a community practice.

Art form: Painting, Film, Community Historian and public speaker

My work as an artist is currently for sale via retailers in the form of prints and cards but I have also sold original canvasses and undertaken commissions for original pieces. My artwork is inspired by the vibrant colours, designs and textures of the West of Scotland’s 19th century textile industries and in particular the Paisley pattern and shawl making industry of Renfrewshire. My work as a social historian leads me to carry out the research, design and delivery of community led, intergenerational and schools heritage projects including some experience of film making as well as undertaking lectures and talks to a variety of interest groups.
