DESCRIPTION:  \nhttp://creativerenfrewshire.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/WhatsApp-Video-2026-05-21-at-06.35.35.mp4\nA poetic and thought-provoking documentary\, that invites a quiet reimagining of our place in the world  through geology\, art\, and environment \nA poetic and thought-provoking documentary\, this powerful debut feature film by Glenda Rome invites us to reimagine our connection to place\, grounded in the poetry of the land itself. \nAlong rugged coastlines\, ancient forests and into the geological bedrock of Scotland’s wild places\, Expressing the Earth embarks on a cinematic journey into Geopoetics – the philosophy developed by the late Scottish poet-thinker Kenneth White\, which seeks a deeper connection between the mind\, culture and the living world. \n \nThrough breathtaking cinematography\, the film follows the creative lives of six individuals\, their reflections\, practices and paths bringing geopoetics to life – blurring the lines between disciplines to offer a deeper\, more intuitive relationship – a fusion of geology\, language and creative thought. \nExpressing the Earth invites us to look again at our relationship with the planet – and to rediscover the creative dialogue between human perception and the Earth. \nwww.expressingtheearth.com / www.geopoetics.org.uk / www.creativerenfrewshire.com \n

SUMMARY:From Cart to the Clyde - Artists in Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Culture\, Climate and the Power of Partnership: Artists in Conversation\nEvent Description\nJoin us for a special afternoon of conversation exploring the Scottish contribution to Turning the Tide\, a European cultural collaboration examining climate change\, water\, place and community through socially engaged artistic practice. \nBringing together artists\, researchers and project partners\, this event offers an opportunity to reflect on how creative practice can help communities understand and respond to environmental change. Through discussion\, film\, photography\, mapping and participatory approaches\, the featured artists have worked alongside residents\, environmental practitioners\, health professionals\, planners and community organisations to explore the lived realities of climate change across Scotland. \nWhile Scotland now sits outside the European Union\, Turning the Tide demonstrates the continued importance of international cultural exchange. Supported by Creative Scotland and local partners\, the Scottish programme has connected communities in Govan\, Renfrewshire and Dumfries with artists and organisations across Europe\, creating new opportunities for dialogue around climate justice\, river health\, environmental memory and collective futures. \nThe discussion will feature artists whose work has emerged through local and international residencies as part of the project: \n\nRobyn Woolston\nFollowing an international residency in Gdańsk\, Robyn Woolston has developed a powerful body of work connecting ecology\, health and social justice. Drawing on personal experiences of illness alongside research into industrial landscapes and environmental harm\, her practice explores the relationships between extractivism\, care and climate breakdown. Through her current project Shifting Shores\, Robyn continues to investigate river ecologies\, industrial heritage and collective wellbeing across Renfrewshire. \n \nJamie Wardrop\nJamie Wardrop’s work combines environmental data\, community knowledge and creative facilitation to help people experience rivers as complex living systems. Through his residency focusing on the White Cart Water and the wider Clyde bioregion\, Jamie developed participatory workshops and interactive mapping tools that bring together scientific research\, local experience and environmental observation. His work invites audiences to move beyond abstract climate information and towards shared responsibility for river health. \n\nPhilippa Tomlin\nWorking across drawing\, textiles\, installation and participatory practice\, Philippa Tomlin creates welcoming spaces for reflection\, creativity and environmental connection. Her residency explored how communities experience changing landscapes and river environments through observation\, conversation and collaborative making. Her work highlights the role of care\, wellbeing and collective imagination in responding to climate change. \n\nWhat to Expect\n\nArtist presentations and discussion\nInsights from residencies\nReflections on climate justice\, river ecologies and cultural planning\nAudience Q&A\nOpportunities to learn more about the wider Turning the Tide project\n\nAbout Turning the Tide\nTurning the Tide is a European cooperation project exploring how artists\, communities and cultural organisations can respond creatively to climate change and environmental transformation. Across Scotland\, Poland\, Greece\, Austria and Sweden\, artists have worked with local communities to investigate the social\, cultural and ecological impacts of changing waterways and landscapes. \nThe Scottish programme demonstrates how locally rooted practice can remain internationally connected\, fostering new forms of collaboration\, learning and action across borders. Through shared methodologies\, exchange and dialogue\, Turning the Tide offers a model for how culture can contribute to collective responses to the climate crisis. \nWhether you are interested in contemporary art\, environmental issues\, community engagement or the future of our rivers and landscapes\, this event offers an opportunity to hear directly from artists working at the intersection of creativity\, place and climate action.

SUMMARY:White Cart Water
DESCRIPTION:Film\, Mapping and River Walk with Jamie Wardrop\nJoin artist and researcher Jamie Wardrop for a special day of film\, discussion\, digital exploration and riverside observation\, centred on the White Cart Water and its journey from the Eaglesham Moors through Glasgow to Paisley. \nHosted at the University of the West of Scotland\, this multimedia event will present a new film-based work developed during Jamie’s Turning the Tide residency. Through moving image\, environmental research and creative storytelling\, the work explores the river’s ecology\, health\, local wildlife\, and the environmental challenges it faces. \n  \n \nAlongside the film screening\, Jamie will introduce an interactive digital map developed as part of the project\, which visualises changing rainfall patterns and river levels to reveal the impacts of climate change on the river system. \nAt scheduled points throughout the day\, participants will also be invited to take part in a short creative workshop and guided observational walk to the river. Together\, these activities offer an opportunity to reflect on the White Cart Water not simply as a resource or landscape feature\, but as a living presence within the community. \nThroughout the residency\, Jamie has explored themes including local species\, invasive plants\, environmental restoration\, geopoetics and ecological observation\, asking what it might take to restore our relationship with the river and better understand its place within both natural and human systems. \nWhether you have a connection to the White Cart Water\, an interest in environmental issues\, or are curious about creative approaches to climate and ecology\, this event offers a unique opportunity to engage with the river in new and meaningful ways.

SUMMARY:Healing Arts Scotland: Renfrewshire Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Creative Renfrewshire hosts a one-day CPD event for artists\, health\, social-care\, and community professionals to share practice. \n\n\nCreative Renfrewshire hosts a one-day CPD event bringing together artists\, health\, social-care\, and community professionals to explore how creative practice enhances mental health and wellbeing. \nFeaturing keynote provocations\, workshops\, networking\, sharing practical models and lived experience. The event demonstrates arts’ role in reducing isolation\, fostering cross-sector collaboration\, and working creatively to support healthier communities. \nIf you are an arts worker\, artist\, carer or community professional this is for you! \n\n\nBreakdown of the day:\nProvocations\n10:30 – 11:30\nHow do we evaluate the success of arts-based wellbeing initiatives without reducing a profoundly personal\, emotional experience into cold\, quantitative data? \nDiscussion points\n1. Does framing art purely as a “medicine” or a therapeutic outcome strip it of its intrinsic joy? \n2. Art is often a luxury\, yet it is profoundly vital for marginalized or isolated groups. How can communities dismantle traditional gallery and theatre barriers to ensure “Creative Health” is genuinely available to everyone? \n\n\nWorkshops\n11:30 – 12:15\nSewing2gether All Nations is an award-winning\, grassroots community charity based in Paisley\, Scotland\, that supports refugees and asylum seekers. The organization uses textile upcycling\, sewing workshops\, and community events to help “New Scots” practice English\, learn life skills\, combat isolation\, and build friendships. \nor\nSaira Acosta Diaz is an artist\, printmaker\, and wellness tutor who facilitates art\, creativity\, and therapeutic wellbeing workshops. Saira’s current project is helping menopausal women through process art. \n12:15 – 13:15\nSinging for wellbeing :Daniela Hathaway runs highly popular Singing for Wellbeing and health workshops across Renfrewshire and the wider West of Scotland. Her inclusive\, feel-good sessions are designed to boost mood\, build social connections\, and even support respiratory and cognitive health. \nor\nKaren Herbison is a creative facilitator\, playwright\, actor\, director\, and children’s author with a 25-year background in social care with the arts\, she delivers community-focused performance projects\, creative writing workshops\, and theatrical productions. We’re going to dip our toes into ‘creative writing’ (yes\, I know that can fill folk with “Aw\, naw! Ah cannae write!” dread) but gently\, with no pressure … we’ll see how\, by using simple words we can to tap into creativity\, support anyone to create a written piece\, to even be part of a sharing performance and to nudge open the doors out on a path to even deep-rooted dreams. \n\n
